October 22, 2024
Enhance your journalism skills through free online workshops, mentoring, and get an opportunity to win cross-border production grants

Thomson Media offers comprehensive capacity-building support for young and mid-career journalists from the Western Balkans countries.

The support, part of the EU-funded project Strengthening Quality News and Independent Journalism, consists of free online two-part workshops on Mobile and Multiplatform Journalism, customised mentoring, a masterclass, and a potential cross-border production grant.

  • The two-part workshop on Mobile Journalism is scheduled for 31 October  and 7 November
  • The two-part workshop on Multiplatform Journalism is scheduled for 28 November and 5 December

Both workshops will start at 10 a.m. CET and last up to 4 hours each. The number is limited to 20 participants per workshop. English will be the working language of the workshops; thus, each participant should have a good command of spoken and written English.

Alongside online workshops, each participant will receive three months of mentoring support to facilitate the practical implementation of the learned skills and a targeted invitation to apply for a cross-border production grant to showcase the newly acquired skills. Also, a masterclass for the participants who will receive cross-production grants will be held at the end of the process, offering a customised curriculum to further fine-tune their skills.

To be considered for the support, all participants are required to fill in the application form on the link by the following deadlines:

  • For the mobile journalism workshop – no later than 28 October at 23:59 CET
  • For the multiplatform journalism workshop – no later than 25 November at 23:59 CET

One participant can attend both workshops or just one based on their preferences.

These activities are part of the capacity-building support that will run throughout this and the next year within the Strengthening Quality News and Independent Journalism project.

There will be eight online training sessions, each on different topics – from Mobile Journalism to Multiplatform Journalism, Artificial Intelligence in the Newsroom, Storytelling, Financial Literacy, etc. Besides online, there will also be four offline workshops. The first offline workshop on the practical implementation of AI in the daily work of media outlets will be held in November in Skopje.

Each participant who attends at least one online workshop will be invited to apply for further capacity-building opportunities, summer schools, and exchange programmes within the Strengthening Quality News and Independent Journalism project.
